Mayor Bowser taps former GSA official Nina Albert as new DMPED, House Republicans back on their bullshit, and early campaign finance reports are in.
- Nina Albert, formerly a top real estate official at the General Services Administration and a veteran of both Metro and the D.C. government, is set to become Mayor Muriel Bowser’s new deputy mayor for planning and economic development. The agency’s been under interim leadership since John Falcicchio’s sudden resignation in March amid a sexual harassment scandal. [X, WBJ]
- House Republicans used another hearing to fearmonger about crime in the District, relying on a pair of victims of crime and the D.C. Police Union to help bash Bowser and the Council. The failure of federal prosecutors to pursue charges against many people arrested by police was a main subject of debate, though U.S. Attorney Matthew Graves told some Democrats that he’s currently prosecuting 90 percent of people arrested for the most serious violent crimes. - Early financial reports show At-Large Councilmember Robert White and Ward 7 hopeful Veda Rasheed are off to fast starts in fundraising. Ward 4 Councilmember Janeese Lewis George also says she’s already raised enough money to qualify for matching funds in D.C.’s Fair Elections program. [X, X]
